The Circle of The Sanctified
An ancient order from long ago, The Circle of The Sanctified was formed when demons and other creatures began attacking the human world. Humans from many different faiths and creeds joined one another, believing that if they all came together, they could combine their beliefs and holy magic to create a force of unstoppable holy knights.
Magic works in many different ways, but for humans it can be generated through strong enough faith and will power. By putting strong enough faith into their creators, humans are able to produce small amounts of “light'“ magic that is able to smite lower level demons and weaken higher level ones. This magic can be used to imbue weapons with smiting power, heal, resist disease and poison, and preform some small miracles. Humans who posses a high aptitude for using holy magic often became Saints, and even well revered deities.
By combining knowledge from every faith, The Circle was able to unlock absolute truths to the universe and the creatures in it and thus created a vast library of the occult and supernatural.
When Sparda sealed the portal between the demon world and the human world, demon attacks became less frequent in the human world, and many within the Circle talked of disbanding, and while that never happened, The Circle grew smaller as the years went on. Like Sparda himself, The Circle went from being a well known and revered order, to a small faction that many believed to be just a legend. The Circle of The Sanctified held together through the years on the belief that Sparda’s seal was not permanent, and that a greater ritual would need to be done one day to seal the gates for good. To this day, The Circle has been unable to figure out everything needed for the ritual, or find a person powerful enough in their holy magic to complete it. The small faction that still stands still continues to defend the human world from demons and other supernatural beings.
